After having announced, that Ryanair will not try take over parts of German airline Air Berlin, CEO Michael O’Leary announced, that his group is interested to buy 90 machines of deep in debt airline Alitalia. The name should remain the same, but employees and flight connections are expected to be taken over. Initially, the Irish airline wanted to take the whole company, but Italian cartel authorities stopped this procedure – because Ryanair then would own more than 50 percent of the Italian market. According to minister of tourism Dario Franceschini, “the fragmentation of Alitalia would be a huge mistake”. The deadline for offers by interested parties closes on October 2.
